Gator Bowl Defense
January 1, 2009 – Post Game
Congrats to all the Huskers. The Husker Nation feels jubilient. And the cumulative effect of those half-time Hail Mary’s paid off. Way to go!
My player of the game – the Husker defense that showed up in the second half. Holding the Tigers to only one touchdown was marvelous…especially with the last possession scoring threat of the Tigers.
Honorable Mention…
Ganz of course – great last game
Henery – 12 points; nearly half of the total; always coming through in the clutch
Suh – always where he needed to be
Swift – looks like Ed McCaffery, retired Denver Bronco
Peterson – good in the clutch
Stay tuned for recruiting and spring training commentary on the Huskers.
The Huskers have redeemed the faith of the nation.

Half Time Hail Marys
January 1, 2009 – Halftime
Definition of Nebraska Football Hail Mary – What you say during halftime (multiple times) when Nebraska is behind.
Even though this is a Nebraska web site:
1. Congrats to Iowa – I got up shortly after my college student came home to take in the game win.
2. See my comments about Mike Shanahan at my business blog: http://blog.smartgrowth.com

Gator Bowl – Family Style
December 28, 2008
This story is fairly common and illustrates the wonderful family aspect of Nebraska football.
For their first trip ever to a Nebraska bowl game, my Uncle Bud of Omaha will travel with his three grown sons (David of South Carolina, Chris of Seattle, Michael of Omaha) to Jacksonville for the Gator Bowl. It has been their life-long dream to go to a game, and this year they will attend together after meeting up in South Carolina.
They will be the ones in the red shirts…watch for them on television.
As they go to and from the game, they will see thousands of Husker fans, many making their first trip ever and fulfilling their life-long dreams as well.
Enjoy…and don’t do anything on the national stage to embarass your wives, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Husker football holiday notes
December 28, 2008
From my travels across Nebraska on I-80 for Christmas:
What-will-they-brand-next category:
1. Trailer hitch with a Husker sign on it – saw hundreds of these on pickups and SUVs
2. Pez containers – red with a Husker football – all the men in the family have one now
Where-did-all-those-Gator-Bowl-shirts-go category:
Gator bowl shirt inventory depleted to just a handful of shirts in each store I visited…either they are going like hotcakes or the recession causted cutbacks in ordering.
